First-A Little Commentary
“It seems that there is a lot of friction between a lot of the Council people and a lot of the Planning Commission. I really don’t think it’s more of a “who’s picking on whom?” It’s that they just don’t get along! If we are going to be pointing fingers, if we are going to be saying, “This person said this or this person was hitting on this,” then we should see what’s happening with the City Council and how is one of the main persons who should be in order, who should know how it is when a motion is done and continues with it instead of badgering the Council Members to try and put a vote through. That’s where it is to get people. If it’s going to be coming to pointing fingers at who said what and who is pointing at what, then we need to look at the whole thing because it’s going on a lot.” Angelina Torres Public comments, Planning Commission Meeting Dated 06-09-09
Ya think?!
I must admit, I agree with most of what Ms. Torres has to say. Where we might disagree is just who is “out of order”. It is quite clear that
-
There is quite a bit of friction between certain council members. (Sometimes it seems to me more like outright hatred and spite than “friction”)
-
One of the “main persons” on the council need to be “in order” and learn how to “reign in the mouth” and not act like the meeting is all about him/her.
-
One of the “main persons” on the council needs to sit down with a copy of Robert’s Rules of Order and READ IT. S/he also needs to study up on certain things before opening his/her mouth and looking ignorant in front of lawyers, engineers, architects, and others in “technical professions”
-
One council member certainly should learn when is the proper time to make a motion, start a discussion, and when to end it. (and not make a point of talking on an on ad nauseam)
-
One, maybe 2 council persons need to learn how to make their point in short, coherent statements and not “run on at the mouth” and drag out the meetings. (since the attorneys get over $200 an hour—last I checked)
Several weeks before the last November Elections, I had reasons to be concerned about certain candidates qualifications. Some, I hardly ever saw at City Council, Planning Commission, or Citizen’s Advisory Committee meetings until just before Election Day.

As for fussin, fudin, fightin nastyness and 3/2 splits…that’s been going on for a long, long time. (Anyone who has bothered to show up at even a sampling of Council Meetings over the last few years would know that!)

Note from “The Snail”: according to what I have heard, if everything goes well with Developer’s Agreements in discussion, there will be a Special Meeting called later this month to discuss an “Affordable Housing” Apartment project. Not only is this project being designed to be “affordable”, it also includes features designed to accommodate the Blind, Deaf, and those needing wheelchair access.

Hot Air Kelo v. City of New London
I do not remember seeing a certain council member at any city council meetings before they were elected to the council, but maybe they were busy on those nights. Or to give them the benefit of the doubt maybe I missed seeing them if they were in attendance. I do feel the air of animosity at the city council meetings. It seems to radiate from mainly just one. The one whom I don’t recall seeing at council meetings. I really do wish Livingston could have a a sincere council one that cares about their community, not what being on the council can get for them, family and friends. Because as you all know we have seen this happen time and time again. “It is the good o boy/girl society”. Well most of you know who the one council member is that creates this feeling, but I also know they have a side kick in another council member, but I must not mention names for fear that I will hurt their feelings. Buck up people, there will be another vote. We can always vote them out like we did most of the last ones. NOTE: If anyone out there knows someone who is basically a good honest person and really cares about their community and attends the meeting and does not have a ” what can I get for me, my friends and family agenda”"then maybe encourage them to run next election. Livingston has many people who could fill this job.
