AGENDA ITEM: Council Authorize Staff to Purchase Portable Radios and Accessories Utilizing 2015 State Homeland Security Grant Program.
MEETING DATE: August 18, 2015
PREPARED BY: Ruben Chavez, Chief of Police
REVIEWED BY: Odi Ortiz, Interim City Manager
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the purchase of five portable radios with accessories through the 2015 State Homeland Security Grant Program.
The Livingston Police Department currently uses Motorola HT750 portable radios for front line law enforcement. ICOM produces an updated model with enhanced features and a reasonable price through the Police Department’s communications contract vendor, LA Rue Communications. The newer radios are worn on the belt of officers and provide increased efficiencies and enhance police services for the City of Livingston in maintaining public safety. The radios allow for better communications within the City as well as within the county.
The Police Department recently has been slowly replacing all the HT 750s and only needs to complete the switch over with these 5 portable radios. The cost for the project is $6,034.00 which is completely covered by this grant. The costs include all accessories such as the batteries, antennas, and chargers. This purchase was awarded to the Police Department as a security priority through the SHSGP committee.
This project constitutes a replacement of the existing portable radios already in place.
LA Rue Communications is the contract vendor for the Police Depat1ment to provide the communications services.
No fiscal impact to the City.
1. LA Rue Communications project estimate of $6,034.00.
