AGENDA ITEM: Council Accept and Authorize Temporary Outsourcing of City’s Street Sweeping Services with Gilton Solid Waste.
MEETING DATE: February 3, 2015
PREPARED BY: Odi Ortiz, Assistant City Manager
REVIEWED BY: Jose Antonio Ramirez, City Manager
Staff recommends that the City Council accepts and authorizes temporary outsourcing of City’s street sweeping with Gilton Solid Waste.
The public works street sweeper vehicle (2010 Nissan) has been scheduled for repairs. The expected turn-around period to get the unit back in service is late February. The vehicle has been out of service since late December 2014 and there may be some areas which may require attention.
Management is considering hiring temporary assistance to cover the sweeping areas in town on an as needed-basis until vehicle is repaired. Gilton has provided an hourly rate of $125 (includes vehicle & operator), Turlock Scavengers $170 per hour (includes vehicle & operator), and Owens Equipment in Sacramento $3,250 per week or $9,300 (vehicle rental only). The Cities of Turlock and Merced were contacted and are not able to assist. Staff has also contacted Foster Farms as an option and are still waiting for a response. Depending on actual needs, management will be entertaining these options until the sweeper unit is back in service.
An internal cost analysis reflected an estimated hourly rate of near $65 to operate the street sweeper vehicle (includes vehicle, labor, and annual general maintenance costs).
Accept and approve Gilton Solid Waste to temporary assist with street sweeping.
