AGENDA ITEM: Consider appointment of Alternate Planning Commissioner. MEETING DATE: July 7, 2015

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends the following:

1. Review the applications received applying for Alternate Planning Commissioner;

2. Determine if the Council as a whole, or a Council Committee wishes to interview the two candidates and make a recommendation to the full Council;

3. Appoint an Alternate Planning Commissioner.

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION:

On April 19, 2015, staff received the resignation of Planning Commissioner Francisco Castellanos.

At the Council meeting of May 5, 2015, the Council accepted the resignation and appointed Alternate Planning Commissioner Francisco Mendoza-Gonzalez to fill the vacancy. Also at that meeting, the Council directed staff to advertise for an Alternate Commissioner. Staff adve1iised the vacancy on the City website, posted on the City Hall bulletin board, and asked that the vacancy be noted in both the Merced Sun-Star and the Livingston Chronicle in a news a1iicle.

The deadline for applications was Friday, June 16, 2015. Two applications were received (see attached).

RESOLUTION NO. 2015-

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LIVINGSTON APPOINTING AN ALTERNATE PLANNING COMMISSIONER TO FILL A VACANCY

ON THE PLANNING COMMISSION

WHEREAS, the City appointed the Alternate Planning Commissioner to fill a vacancy of the Planning Commission on May 5, 2015; and

WHEREAS, this appointment created a vacancy of the Alternate Planning Commissioner position and the City Council directed staff to advertise for an Alternate Commissioner; and

WHEREAS, The City received two applications within the filing period.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Livingston does hereby appoint the following person to fill the Alternate Planning Commissioner vacancy:
