Approve the repairs to the backhoe rear and front axles for the Wastewater Department.
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION:
The Wastewater Department owns a backhoe that is used on a daily basis to remove, stock pile, and dry sewer sludge at the wastewater treatment plant. The backhoe is also used for repairs to dirt roads within the facility.
On November, 2016, the backhoe stop working due to failures on the rear and front axles. City staff inspected the backhoe and sent to Pape Machinery to disassemble and determine the extent of the damages. Staff received three quotes from the following companies to complete the repairs.
1. Pape Machinery – $19,661.65
2. ConEquip Construction Equipment Parts – $20,250.18 (parts only) 3. John Deere – $22,517.50
Staff proceeded with the repairs using Pape which had provided the lowest price for the work.
The backhoe repair costs will be funded 100% from the sewer enterprise funds included in the FY 2016- 2017 budget.
