RECOMMENDATION:

City Council provide staff direction for appointments to the Livingston Parks and Recreation Commission.

BACKGROUND:

At the direction of the City Council, staff advertised and extended the deadline date for applications for membership on the Livingston Parks and Recreation Commission. As of the most recent deadline date of January 3, 2011, there were six (6) applications submitted and/or on file from previous recruitments. The City Council previously received copies of the applications for review and consideration.

DISCUSSION:

The Parks and Recreation Commission is comprised of seven (7) members over the age of 18 to be appointed by the City Council from residents of the City. A maximum of one member may reside outside the City limits as long as he/she resides within the boundaries of the Livingston Union School District.

Staff provides the following options for the City Council’s consideration.

1. Interview the six (6) applicants and make appointments at a later date and advertise for the one (1) one remaining vacancy.

2. Process a new recruitment for members and extend the deadline date for applications.

If the City Council selects Option #2, staff will advertise the vacancies in the local newspapers via news articles; post the vacancies on the City website, Channel 2, and the City bulletin board.
