9-5-71 WASTE OF WATER PROHIBITED
Customers are prohibited from wasting City water. Water waste through inappropriate use, leaks or other wasteful use must be stopped within forty-eight (48) hours notice by the City. Water waste includes, but is not limited to, the following:
(A) Lawn Watering. Watering lawns or gardens in such a way that excess water leaves property being watered.
(B) Washing. Washing cars without the use of a quick-acting positive shut-off nozzle on the hose. Furthermore, there shall be no washing of sidewalks, patios, driveways, gutters or other exterior surfaces. Vehicle washing shall be allowed only on the designated watering day and Saturdays and Sundays regardless of house numbers. (Ord. 576, 12-16-08)
9-5-72 WATER RESTRICTIONS
(A) Sprinkling Systems. All sprinkler systems installed for irrigation of lawns and flowers shall be so designated and installed that the water shall not be sprayed or permitted to be sprayed over or upon a sidewalk. Portable sprinklers will not be permitted on the sidewalk, nor may they be placed in such a manner as to spray the water upon the sidewalk or so as to prevent pedestrians from using sidewalks at all times without being struck or wet by spray from the sprinklers.
(B) Sprinkling Devices Required. All consumers are hereby prohibited from using water supplied by the City by permitting water to flow out of or from any hose or substitute for said hose, for irrigating lawns or grass plots, without having attached thereto, at all times in the usual, proper and customary manner, a sprinkler, sprinkling device or spraying device. No open hoses will be allowed.
(C) Water Restrictions. When directed by the City Council, the following outside watering restrictions apply to residential, commercial and industrial customers of the City of Livingston:
1. All house numbers ending with an even number may water on Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday.
2. All house numbers ending with an odd number may water on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday.
3. No outside watering on Wednesday.
4. The washing of vehicles will be allowed on the designated watering day and on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays), regardless of house numbers, as long as a quick-acting positive shut-off nozzle is used.
(D) Enforcement. It shall be the duty of the Police, Fire and all other departments and employees to give vigilant aid to the Public Works Department in the enforcement of the provisions of this chapter. (Ord. 576, 12-16-08)
