AGENDA ITEM: City Council to Accept Donation of One 2001 Dodge % ton Long Bed Pick Up from Reserve Officer Joseph Cruz from California Highway Patrol Decommissioned Vehicle Fleet.
MEETING DATE: November 13, 2014
PREPARED BY: Ruben Chavez, Chief of Police
REVIEWED BY: Jose Antonio Ramirez, City Manager
That City Council accepts the donation of one 2001 Dodge 3/4 ton long bed pick-up from Reserve Officer Joseph Cruz from the California Highway Patrol Decommissioned Vehicle Fleet for use by the Livingston Police Mounted Unit.
The Livingston Police Department is in need of a heavy duty pick-up to transport horses during special events in Livingston. Currently, Officer Cruz coordinates the Mounted Unit, however, is in need of a truck to tow the horse trailer.
The California Highway Patrol has a vehicle surplus program where decommissioned vehicles are supplied to local law enforcement agencies at a minimal cost of $1,500.00. Officer Joseph Cruz, who coordinates the Livingston Mounted Unit, has donated the fee to purchase the vehicle which must go directly to a law enforcement agency. The vehicles are well maintained by the California Highway Patrol and will not need any repairs. Most vehicles are decommissioned between 125,000 and 175,000 miles.
The vehicle will be stored at the Police Department and used by Officer Cruz to transport the horses during special events. The vehicle will remain with the Police Department regardless of Officer Cruz’s employment status.
The City mechanic can inspect any of the vehicles prior to acceptance and will include service records when available. The % pick up is an ideal solution for the transportation demand of the Livingston Mounted Unit.
