AGENDA ITEM: City Council to Accept Donation of One 26-Passenger Mini Bus from the Merced County Association of Governments.
MEETING DATE: October 21, 2014
PREPARED BY: Ruben Chavez, Chief of Police
REVIEWED BY: Jose Antonio Ramirez, City Manager
That City Council accepts the donation of one 26-passenger bus which is being donated to cities within Merced County. The County of Merced recently surplused ten of these vehicles after they purchased replacements.
The Livingston Police Department needs to provide adequate transportation for the growing Explorer Post and other school related programs such as MAPS, CEASE, and City Recreation.
Merced County Association of Government (MCAG) had 10 buses being placed as surplus and the City requested two buses for its growing need.
The City mechanic and Police Department administration evaluated the condition of the buses and found they were in good condition. Both buses have mileage of approximately 200,000 miles; however, they were well maintained and service records were provided.
The buses are an ideal solution for the transportation demand the Department has been challenged with.
The donation of the mini buses will have minimal impact to the budget. The costs associated with the buses will be related to maintenance to include oil changes, brakes, and tires.
